  33. Mmmm. This is not true. Numerous photographic records show objects that are 
  34. no less mysterious than the eyewitness accounts. They can be lights in the 
  35. lens, a distant airplane/balloon. There is definitely something physical 
  36. happening. Remember you are arguing with a bunch of people who are looking 
  37. to undercut your arguments on the pettiest of points. Don't make generalized 
  38. statements like the one above. The only effect it has is to suggest that 
  39. people are "crazy". May be true <g> but no use comes from saying it.....

  43. Just as long as other people are free to choose where the "point" is, that 
  44. sounds just fine. Most observations CAN be explained. I've discovered some 
  45. VERY interesting geological facts from someone investigating the Bermuda 
  46. Triangle. Have you heard about the suspected activity in the anhydrous layer 
  47. of the seabed? Fascinating. And NOT "paranormal".

  52. Yes. Always suspect the motives and integrity of someone who is trying to 
  53. make a buck. Carl Sagan is a scientist who makes his living from science. 
  54. His devotion to not seeing science misused is not driven by money. I can 
  55. believe Carl, I can't believe the guy who is trying to scrape together 
  56. something sensational enough to sell more newspapers for his livelihood.

  62. The only problem I have with people like Randi, and its only a small one, is 
  63. that they investigate the highest profile and most widely reported cases, 
  64. which usually means that someone has at the very least exaggerated their 
  65. observations to make money, if not outright made the whole thing up.

  72. I would take seriously. I hope that THAT is not the source of your 
  73. "informed" opinion on the paranormal. No matter how skewed or biased the 
  74. Skeptical Reporter may be, it is infinitely better than the TV "psychic" 
  75. shows....

  87. But they don't "report" these matters, they investigate them. I haven't 
  88. heard of any of those three witnessing first-hand a truly incredible, 
  89. unexplainable event that tickles their curiosity so that they just can't let 
  90. it go. I sometimes wish they would.

  92. Hmmm. Just out of curiosity, what is the Skeptical Inquirer's Main purpose? 
  93. Is it a hobby journal specifically about debunking paranormal claims, or 
  94. does it serve a broader purpose, challenging and testing any new ideas, 
  95. including developments in science like "cold fusion"?
